How The PIXEL works
The Pixel® is a skin fractional laser resurfacing procedure that treats small zones of the skin, leaving surrounding tissue untouched. It is highly effective for stretch marks, wrinkles, acne scars on the face, hands and arms, neck or chest.
The Pixel® provides a safe and effective treatment for aged and photo-damaged skin with no patient downtime, and no gel or consumables required.
The best of both worlds for skin resurfacing: it combines the proven effectiveness of an ablative approach (removal of epidermis and some of the dermis) with the patient comfort level and convenience of a non-ablative approach.
The Pixel laser works by creating thousands of microscopic perforations, but keeps the skin around the perforations intact.
This allows your skin’s top layer to heal from the edge of these tiny holes very rapidly, which significantly improves your complexion.
Any area of the skin can be treated including:
- Fines lines and wrinkles (including lines around the eyes)
- Enlarged pores
- Acne and Acne scarring
- Sun-damaged skin
- Stretch marks
- Surgical scars
- Poor skin tone, and texture
The Pixel laser creates many tiny laser holes in the skin, removing part of the top layer of skin. It leaves the surrounding skin cells intact to serve as a reservoir for rapid healing. The laser stimulates new collagen growth to smooth and tighten the skin. You will continue to make new collagen for 6 months after a Pixel treatment.
There is some discomfort during the laser treatment. A topical numbing cream and a Zimmer, which blows cold air over the skin, both help numb the skin during the treatment, easing any discomfort.
The treated area will be very red and swollen for the first 24-48 hours. The skin will begin to flake and peel on days 3-4. This is especially noticeable during cleansing the skin. The skin on the face is usually essentially healed after 5 days – though there may still be some redness. Skin on areas of the body (anywhere off the face) can take at least twice as long to heal because the skin turns over more slowly and does not have as many oil glands present. Most patients can begin to apply mineral makeup after 3-4 days. We recommend scheduling a dermal edge treatment or a clinical facial in 1-2 weeks after the treatment to help eliminate the dead skin cells and to rehydrate the skin.
Pixels are done as frequently as 1 month apart. For conditions such as acne scarring, patients typically need 3-5 treatments.
